We have extensive sports medicine and performance testing expertise to treat amateur and professional athletes. This includes sports and exercise medicine (SEM) physicians, physiotherapists, Pilates instructors and Chartered Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and Chiropractors. 

Led by Dr Steve Baynes, Sports Medicine Specialists, our Sports Medicine Service offers treatment for a wide range of musculoskeletal and sport related injuries and conditions. 

If your symptoms require further investigation, we have quick access to X-ray, MRI and Ultrasound diagnostics at Spire Southampton Hospital.  Our team is committed to returning you to fitness and your sport or activity as quickly as possible.  Whether you are a weekend warrior, returning to work or a professional athlete, getting the right treatment quickly is our first priority.

  • Initial assessment, understanding your background and symptoms, comprehensive examination and an agreed plan of action.
  • Investigations including x-ray, diagnostic ultrasound, MRI, CT scan and Blood tests.
  • Referrals to our team of experts in nutrition, personal training, orthopaedics, podiatry, physiotherapy and strength and conditioning.
  • A detailed return to activity programme designed by our experienced multi-disciplinary team.
  • Specialist equipment including the Alter-G anti-gravity running machine and the Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing Lab.
  • Advice and guidance on illness prevention, injury prevention and occupational impact.
  • Pre-participation screening for individuals and teams for example pre-season testing, cardiac screening and concussion baseline assessment.
  • Lifestyle advice to improve healthy living and wellbeing.
  • Advice on exercise in chronic disease management; nutrition, weight loss, diabetes, depression/mental health issues, high blood pressure, heart disease, hydrotherapy pool.
  • Specialist advice and management of sport related conditions such as concussion in sport, complex hip and groin pain and breathing difficulties in sport.
  • Personal training, strength and conditioning coaching, VO2 max testing, body composition and sweat testing.
